Laminate came into the flooring scene as an affordable alternative to wood floors. Essentially, laminate is a printed “image” of wood, tile or stone laminated onto an MDF (Medium Density Fiber) or HDF (High Density Fiber) board substrate. Over the years of laminate flooring production, changes in the overall thickness and new technologies in wear layers has created finishes that are top-of-the-line in both wearability and true-life likenesses.
There are certainly some inexpensive alternatives, but as with all things in floor coverings, you get what you pay for. You won’t find any “cheap” laminates on display at Texas Pride Custom Floors. We believe that the floor covering that you choose should last for years to come. This is hardest to accomplish with laminates but there are still fantastic, well-made options to choose from.
The key factor to understand about laminates is that that MDF or HDF substrates absolutely must stay dry, making laminates not the best choice for wet areas in your home (kitchen, dining, baths, utility, etc.). Also, keep in mind that laminates require an underlayment that has a moisture barrier at minimum. In addition, floating laminated floors tend to be noisy when walking on them. Texas Pride Custom Floors carries a full line of underlayment options that have moisture barriers, proven sound-deadening properties, as wells as provide cushion underfoot.
